Why You Might Need a Home Oil Heater

Even if your home is heated through a traditional manner like a furnace, you might still need a home oil heater. Most homes do have furnaces with ductwork through which heat is distributed. However, rising energy costs mean the wall thermostat may have to be set lower than you would prefer to save money. Also, you may find that some rooms of your home are simply colder than others. For these reasons and others you should at least consider buying a space oil heater. These heaters are quite affordable and available from a wide variety of manufacturers and stores.

Oil heaters are manufactured from heavy gauge steel that has been welded together to avoid leakage. Leakage used to be a problem in the first days of oil heaters, however manufacturers have fixed this so that it is no longer a concern. Another safety feature that many of these heaters offer is auto shut-off in the event that the heater gets too hot or tips over. Space heaters filled with oil are not just safe, they are economical because the oil inside never needs to be replaced. When the heater is first turned on, you may hear a crackling sound. This is completely normal, so don't be alarmed. The oil heating up makes this sound, however once the oil is sufficiently heated the noise will cease.

Most heaters have wheels or casters on the bottom that help it glide along your hard floor or carpet. On the front there will usually be a carrying handle. You will also find a power switch and usually three heat settings. The thermostat on the modern oil heaters will be either knob style or digital depending on which model and brand you choose. Some heaters even have programmable thermostats and auto start features when the temperature in the room drops to a certain point.

The home oil heater is something many apartment and house dwellers should have. They are quite affordable with prices starting at approximately $35. You can purchase an oil filled heater most anywhere that sells home appliances. This not only includes the Internet but nationally known stores like Wal-Mart, Target and Home Depot to name just a few. How much you can expect to pay for your heater will depend on the brand and what kind of features it has.
