Characteristics of the Oil Filled Space Heater
One of the most efficient ways to heat rooms of your home is with an oil filled space heater. Although you will likely need a primary source of heat like a furnace these oil space heaters can add extra warmth to areas that require it. You may want to use a space heater in a bedroom or even bathroom. Just make sure the heater you choose is especially designed for bathroom use because not all oil heaters are. Bathroom heaters are meant to be safe and compact for the bathroom but many can be used in other rooms also.
The majority of space heaters feature heat distributors called fins crafted from heavy gauge welded steel coated with enamel. The oil is contained inside the body of the heater and when it is powered on, the oil is heated and circulated among the fins. This circulated oil creates heat which is released through a venting system through the fins. Some heaters get very hot when in use while others are made to stay cool to the touch. The cool touch fin heaters are best for homes with children and/or pets.
Oil space heaters usually have wheels on the bottom so they can be taken from room to room easily. On some models the wheels lock into place while on others they do not. The majority of heaters have at least three heat controls and an adjustable thermostat so you can select the level of heat you need. Many of the more sophisticated heaters on the market have extras like automatic shut off, automatic turn on and even auto programming. The cost for a space heater can be as little as $30 or more than $100 depending on which heater you choose.
One of the best things about an oil filled space heater is that the oil never needs replacing or refilling. This is one reason these heaters are so popular. They last a long time and usually come with warranty protection. Top brands of space heaters include DeLonghi, Honeywell and Lakewood to name only a few. You'll find heating unit dealers online and in top stores. Home improvement stores and hardware stores like Lowe's, Home Depot and Ace Hardware carry these types of heaters. You may also want to check discount department stores like Wal-Mart and Target.
